Today we study the topic on STYLE AND CHARACTERISTIC OF CHINESE ARCHITECTURE. But before we start our class we played a game on KAHOOT.

STYLE AND CHARACTERISTIC OF CHINESE ARCHITECTURE

1. Space planning, example:

• Pagoda of Fogong Temple; located in Shanghai,China
• Forbidden City Palace, Beijing China
• Courtyard house in china, Beijing
• Great wall China

2. Form and Function;

• using timber frame wood
• combine stone carving, ramped earth.
• emphasizing on their culture, religion, and china characteristic.

3. Facade

• symmetry, heirarchies , emphasis
• various cosmological, mythological, other symbolism.
• moslty using material; stone brick, tamped earth, wood, etc.

• Ex, Chinese pagoda facade, chinese stone pagoda. chinese wooden pagoda
• using decoration based on flower pagodas, honeycombed, animal, buddha, etc
• using material: porcelain (green, blue, yellow, blue pearl)

• Ex; Pai-Long (getaway)
• using acrhway as decorative nature
• meterial using: wood, brick,tone, tiles.
• built entirely of white marble, stone column with mythical animal (dragons, lions, unicorn)

4. Technology and construction

• mostly using wood over concrete,steel, etc
• ex: Tou-kung (ex; temple of fuzhou, nankunshen temple) 
• ex; wooden framing- beam lifted frame (Brickhouse in gouchi)

In conclusion;

 The architecture in China ranges from uniformed and wooden traditional to ultra-sleek and glass modern. Through the culture grows and advances it still keeps the part of it pass within its modern and technological society through its temple, historical areas and even the concept for most of their towers, and housing complexes. This is society is very collective and proud of their rich history. This can be seen through it unique and ancient architecture.
